Jim is the Director of the North Houston location of Senior Living Specialists. Four years ago he brought his mother and father to Houston from out of state to be closer to family and that’s when the challenges began. As octogenarians, they were in reasonably good health but it was not safe to live in their own multi-level home independently any longer. They were also no longer able to drive, and it was apparent they both wanted and needed a senior living community.
Jim went through the long process of locating, researching, visiting, interviewing and comparing all of the options for his mom and dad. He also realized the stress and difficulties so many families go through themselves in similar situations, and has a desire to help other families navigate the pathways to finding the right living situation for their elderly loved ones.
Jim earned degrees in nursing and healthcare administration, and has worked in the healthcare industry for 30+ years in various capacities as: ICU staff RN, charge nurse, Director of Nursing in a small hospital and VP of Nursing Services in a large acute care hospital, Director of Hospice Business Development and Director of Business Development of Home Healthcare with national companies as well as Area Vice President of a large national home care and hospice company.
Throughout his career in healthcare, Jim has had the opportunity to work with administrators, executive directors, physicians, registered nurses, case managers and social workers in placing seniors in facilities with the appropriate level of care for their needs.

Paul Markowitz, Founder
Paul is the owner and founder of Senior Living Specialists. He founded the company as a result of his personal experience trying to find an assisted living community in the Dallas area for his mom, Betty, when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease at the young age of 59. After his family’s personal struggle to find senior living for her, Paul decided that he wanted to do something to help other families who found themselves in similar situations. He knew how stressful and difficult the process could be. After touring many DFW senior living communities, the Senior Living Specialists helped its first family find appropriate care in May of 2009.
Paul earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics and studied abroad in Florence, Italy. Prior to founding Senior Living Specialists, Paul was a Strategy Consultant for four years. In that role, he worked on mergers and acquisitions and business development cases on behalf of many Fortune 500 companies located throughout the United States.
Paul and Jim are working together to give Texans the best help available in the marketplace for assisting families in their search for the perfect place for their senior family members to live.
